Our Calling
God used several passages of Scripture to make our calling clear. When I surrendered to a life of full time missions, I understood missions to be primarily church planting. However, through many conversations with missionaries through the years, it appeared to me there were opportunities to support church planters through a diverse body of co-laborers. It seemed like there was a space in missions for those who would temporarily serve alongside Gospel workers in other places, strengthen relationships between churches and missionaries, and support ministries through furlough coverage.
I asked God for clear Scripture of whether to focus on church planting, or assisting church planters and other Gospel ministries. God is always faithful to answer, and He placed 2 Timothy 4:12 on my heart, which reads, “And Tychicus have I sent to Ephesus.” It’s not a big verse, and few people have purposely memorized it, but when you look at who Tychicus is, it certainly makes His answer clear.
Tychicus is mentioned in five verses in Scripture.
In Acts 20:4, Tychicus accompanies Paul and several other men to Asia to do Gospel work. This is temporarily serving alongside church planters and other Gospel workers where they are.
In Ephesians 6:21 and Colossians 4:7, Tychicus is delivering the letter and additional information from Paul to those two churches. This is strengthening the relationships between churches and missionaries.
In 2 Timothy 4:12 and Titus 3:12, Paul has asked these two men (on separate occasions) to come to where he is, and Tychicus is sent to their respective churches to support those ministries in their absence. This is supporting through furlough and pulpit coverage.
God’s calling for our lives could not be more clear, and I praise Him for using His Word to do it!
How We Help
Serving Alongside Church Planters and Other Gospel Workers Where They Are
We understand that ministry is dynamic and multifaceted. The Gospel is advanced not only through directly preaching and teaching, but also in providing a safe, comfortable environment to reach and minister to people. God has provided us with a diverse ministry background that allows us to temporarily serve alongside ministries who would benefit from assistance with general building maintenance, executing special events, consulting on church safety and security programs, door to door and other forms of outreach, teaching, preaching, office administration, and more!
Strengthening Relationships Between Churches and Missionaries
The reality is that many churches do not fully understand the similarities and differences between life and ministry on a mission field, and life and ministry at their local church. At the same time, many missionaries face obstacles in effectively communicating the realities of life and ministry on the field. It is our goal to help churches and their missions partners better understand and communicate with each other!
Supporting Ministries Through Furlough and Pulpit Coverage
One of the greatest struggles for any ministry leader is stepping away temporarily. Missionaries and pastors, like anyone else, need to occasionally take time off for refreshment or health reasons. Missionaries regularly need to return to their home country to report in to their partner churches or raise additional support. Many ministry leaders are hesitant to address these vital needs in their ministry because they may not have sufficient support to stand in the gap in their absence. Furlough and pulpit coverage is a great need throughout the world, and we desire to help fill that need!
